Morgan Freeman Is a 'Dirty Old' Man

We just updated the path of the live-action The Jetsons, which will move forward without its long-time developer, Robert Rodriguez. The theory being pushed is that Peter Segal (Get Smart) would be brought in to direct. If that does happen, it'll have to wait.

Segal is set to direct a new comedy starring Morgan Freeman called Dirty Old Men, which Warner Bros. just picked up from writers Josh Cagan and Greg Coolidge. The Hollywood Reporter says the project "revolves around an aging playboy who finally meets the love of his life and his best friend and wingman for the past 40 years (Freeman) who does everything to break up the new couple." It's being described as similar to Wedding Crashers and The 40-Year-Old Virgin. Only with an aroma of analgesic ointment.

'Wanted,' 'Kick-Ass' Writer Millar To Direct Movie

Mark Millar's work is already well-known to a lot of movie fans. Last year, his graphic novel Wanted stromed the summer box office. His 2010 comic adaptation, Kick-Ass, looks like next year's Zombieland, and possibly even more fun if you can imagine that. And now, Millar says he's going to direct a superhero flick.

Comic Book Movie has the story from Millar himself, which is heavy on the introduction but light on the specifics. "What is it? Who is it about? Well, that's all a secret for now," hinted Millar emptily, "but I learned a lot from Kick-Ass and love having the same creative freedom I have with comics when I work in cinema."

Trailer - Young John Lennon Bio-Pic 'Nowhere Boy'

There have been Beatle movies before, of course. Backbeat is a pretty good one covering the Fab Four (then five) during their Hamburg days. There was a VH1 movie a few years ago called Two of Us, about the relationship between Lennon and McCartney after John moved to New York in the 1970s.

Nowhere Boy was recently nominated for some British Independent Film Awards, and it's a look at the troubled youth of John Lennon. His music was clearly influenced by his childhood - growing up without his parents, the sudden death of his mother when he was a teenager, the working class environment of Liverpool - and this film explores all of those influences. Two notes: Yes, that is Thomas Sangster for Love, Actually as Paul McCartney, and it was announced today that the film's 42-year-old director, Sam Taylor Wood, is engaged to her Aaron Johnson, her 19-year-old Lennon in this film.

Martin Campbell on "Daunting" 'Green Lantern' VFX

The question of why a Green Lantern movie might cost between $150 and $175 million - the number most commonly thrown around - could be answered pretty simply: Effects, and lots of them. Now director Martin Campbell is discussing the CGI buffet, in an Empire interview sourced by The Coventry Telegraph.

Ryan Reynolds is playing Hal Jordan/Green Lantern in the film, which was originally set to go into production in Australia, but while now shoot in and around New Orleans, one of the hottest and most surprisingly versatile filming locations in the US. That move might end up saving the production money, but Campbell assures us it's still going to be jam-packed with effects. "It's daunting," the director says. "Just the process, something like 1,300 visual effects shots, it's mind-blowing, quite honestly."

Check It Out: IMDB's Top 250 Movies Subway Map

Kudos to Geek Tyrant for tracking down this cool piece of movie stuff. It was designed by Vodkaster and if you've ever seen a subway map before, this will look pretty familiar. It's a map, by genre, of the IMDB top 250 movies of all time. It takes a while to put something like this together, so the map is based on votes from June 19th of this year. Obviously, it's way to big to see in the little space below, so click on the image to see how to get from Kubrick's Dr. Strangelove to The Shining. (you'd have to take the 15 to the 1 then to the 8 and finally the 9, and you'd pass through his 2001 in the process).
